Business FAQs
Q. What are the advantages to using an agent to purchase insurance?
Insurance agents provide personalized service. We are here to help you choose insurance plans and policies that fit your specific needs. We research and compare the options for you, and we explain your policies and answer your questions. We are your voice and advocate if you have claim or billing issues. The best part is we work for you, not the insurance companies, so our services are always free to you!
Q. What kind of coverage do I need for my business?
Each business is different and your business might face different insurance risks than another company. Some policies include insurance coverage that includes all major property and liability damage, and some policies sell each type of coverage separately. BOP’s or business owner’s policies are popular for small and midsized business. Larger businesses and corporations tend to purchase commercial insurance packages. We recommend you contact one of our professionals to help you determine the type of policy and coverage that will work for your specific business.
Q. Do I have to provide Workers’ Compensation insurance?
As a California employer you are required under California Labor Code Section 3700 to provide workers’ compensation benefits for your employees. When an employee suffers a work related injury or illness, workers’ compensation insurance steps in to provide benefits based on the type of illness or injury sustained. Workers’ compensation is based on a no-fault system, which means that an injured employee does not need to prove that the injury or illness was someone else’s fault in order to receive workers’ compensation benefits for an on-the-job injury or illness.
Q. What is Employers Professional Liability (EPLI) and do I need it?
EPLI protects you (the employer) from claims made against you by an employee. For example, if an employee files a claim for wrongful termination your EPLI policy will provide coverage. EPLI coverage is excluded on commercial general liability policies and is not covered by workers’ compensation.
Q. Is Loss of Customer Information covered by a general liability policy?
No. Loss of Customer Information coverage must be purchased separately. Any business that has credit/ATM card information, Motor Vehicle Records, Social Security numbers, etcetera can be held liable for the loss of client personal information.
