Costumes for a Cause

We hope you enjoyed the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K last weekend! If you missed it or are looking for another opportunity to exercise for a cause, we encourage you to participate in the Jesse Kohen Halloween Run this Saturday, October 25th.

Community members of all ages are invited to this family-friendly event at Bidwell Park One-Mile Recreation Area. The marathon begins at 9:00am and will include both a 5k run and a 2.5K walk. Participants are encouraged to wear their Halloween attire as prizes will be awarded to the best costumes.

Although registration for the marathon is free, donations will be accepted. All proceeds benefit the Jesse Kohen Scholarship awarded annually to Chico State University students who share Jesse’s passion for working with special needs students in public schools.

This is the 5th annual memorial run held in honor of Jesse Kohen. A physical education major at CSU and youngest volunteer member of the Chico Fire Department, Kohen was an inspiration to everyone he met. He was an avid runner and participated in many marathons himself. He carried this same enthusiasm into his work with special needs children. Although we lost Kohen in a car crash in October 2010, his contribution lives on through the Jesse Kohen Foundation.

The Jesse Kohen Halloween Run is the primary fundraiser for the foundation. In addition to the marathon, the event will include a variety of music, games, and food vendors. Have fun with a purpose this weekend and head out to Bidwell Park for the Jesse Kohen Halloween Run.
